Description | Baptism of Crown Prince Peter of Yugoslavia, 1923 |
Details |
The Belgrade Royal Christening: baptism of the infant Crown Prince of Yugoslavia (later King Peter II of Yugoslavia). He was given the name of Peter in place of the temporary name of Stephen given him at his birth in accordance with the Serbian tradition that a Christian child must not remain nameless. The Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth) acted as Koom and Koomitsa (sponsors). Among the guests were King Ferdinand I of Romania and Marie, Queen of Romania, the parents of the infant Prince's mother. They are seen in this photo with the Duchess of York.
