Collection of the week: Pre-Raphaelite works on paper at the Ashmolean Museum

The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Britain's first public museum when it opened in 1683, is welcoming visitors this summer to a major exhibition entitled Pre-Raphaelites: Drawings & Watercolours. The exhibition, which runs until 27th November, explores the enormous range of techniques and media used by the artists that made up this 19th century movement, and shows over 100 artworks from the Ashmolean's internationally-renowned collection of Pre-Raphaelite works on paper.

Our representation of images from the Ashmolean Museum includes graphite, chalk, ink and watercolour drawings and paintings by Rossetti, Holman Hunt, Millais, Burne-Jones, Ruskin, Arthur Hughes and Marie Stillman among others associated with the principles of the Brotherhood, and are available for licensing. This selection is a chance to admire the brilliant detail and draughtsmanship of these works, and drift through the atmosphere of mystical medievalism inherent in so many of them.
