Collection of the week: Jazz Age Club

Step back with us, if you will, to a time of glitz and glamour; dance and decadence; when hemlines rose upwards, cocktails flowed downwards and the Charleston reigned. The Jazz Age Club is based on the collection of contributor Gary Chapman, an expert on the cabaret scene during the inter-war years, who runs the popular blog of the same name. Gary has published widely on key figures from this dazzling era including the Dolly Sisters and, most recently, the costume designer Dolly Tree. We're delighted to represent the Jazz Age Club's extensive image collection which is a visual treat with its eye-popping mix of theatre programmes, art deco covers and spectacular costume designs all populated by a colourful cast of dancers, chanteuses, band leaders and chorus girls. Alongside cabaret stars such as Josephine Baker, Mistinguett and Irene Castle, the Jazz Age Club collection also encompasses other glamorous aspects of this era - smart holiday destinations, hotels and restaurants, fashion plates and a variety of illuminating advertisements and illustrations taken from period magazines including Theatre World, Dancing World, Eve and the somewhat risqué Paris Plaisirs. Don your dancing shoes and discover this simply spiffing collection today.
