Sketch by Norman Hartnell for the design of Princess Elizabeth's wedding dress, which she wore to marry Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947. The dress of ivory duchesse satin was heavily embroidered with symbols inspired by the painting Flora by Botticelli, and included ears of corn, roses, starflowers and orange blossom. |
