Description FA Cup winners - Bolton Wanderers, 1923
Details

FA Cup winners in 1923, Bolton Wanderers. The 1923 FA Cup final was the first to be held in the newly-opened (orignal) Wembley Stadium, known as the Empire Stadium, but was somewhat marred by the chaos of an estimated 300000 spectators gaining entrance to the 125000 capacity ground. The back of the card reads: "It was the most unsatisfactory match ever decided in the history of the Competition. The new Stadium arrangements were hopelessly inadequate. The crowd were encroaching on the field of play when Jack opened the scoring for Bolton." Bolton eventually beat West Ham United 2-0. Association Cup Winners Player's Cigarettes card set, c. 1930.
