Testimonial to Captain Rostron of the Carpathia

Testimonial to Captain Sir Arthur Rostron of the Carpathia, championing his role in the 1912 rescue of the Titanic passengers. Dated 1930 and featuring a thumbnail portrait of Rostron's then command, the Berengaria, it accompanied the establishment of a trust fund in the Captain's name, which he intended to apply to the education of his children. The linen-backed testimonial was passed to Rostron's lifelong friends, Louis and Augusta Ogden, who were passengers on the Carpathia in April 1912, and is thence by direct descent. It lists all of this seafarer's many achievements and honours. Decorated with dolphins about its opening initial, it reads: In Recognition of the Fine Character and Outstanding Seamanship of Sir Arthur Rostron, KBE, RD, RDR, Aide-de-Camp to King George V, United States Medal of Congress, Chevalier Legion d'Honneur, France; Commodore of the Cunard Line Fleet, Captain of the Berengaria, Ambassador of Good Will between Great Britain and America, as a Tribute to His Historic Heroism when Captain of the Carpathia at the Scene of the Titanic disaster and In Appreciation of his interest in those who have been privileged to travel in ships under his command, the Undersigned have established a Trust Fund in his name as A Testimonial of His Accomplishments and the High Regard in Which He Is Held.
