Drawing on a vast archive of original artwork, The Medici Society Archive boasts , amongst other properties, material by a wide variety of children's illustrators including Molly Brett, Margaret Tarrant, Rene Cloke, and Racey Helps. The collection was founded in 1908 to bring artists' work to the wider public and subjects were chosen for their artistic value, beauty or sentiment. The name Medici was selected after the great Florentine family who did so much to encourage art in the Italian Renaissance, with the profile of Lorenzo de' Medici (1449 - 1492), known as Lorenzo the Magnificent, was incorporated into the trade mark. Other content chosen for representation by Mary Evans Picture Library includes striking 1960s and 70s greetings card designs, silhouettes, fairies, birds and animals and botanical illustrations.
