dpa Picture-Alliance GmbH based in Frankfurt am Main, is a subsidiary of Germany's major press agency dpa Deutsche Presse-Agentur GmbH and is one of the country's leading picture agencies. The collection now represented by Mary Evans Picture Library forms part of dpa's 'German History' project including content from the time of the German Emperors Wilhelm I and Wilhelm II, through over a century of turmoil and triumph from the period prior to World War I, Weimar Republic, Third Reich and World War II and concluding with imagery from the reunification of Germany.

Subjects covered in superb depth by the collection include portraiture, social scenes, military history, the holocaust, the 1936 Olympics and the Berlin Airlift.
