Doug with U Win Pe - Pegu - Doug with his tutor, U Win Pe Win Pe took us to the 10th Century pagoda of the golden duck - a curious parallel to our dove from the Ark. Pegu in that period was a sea port and legend is that a royal duck flew in and landed on the high peak. There being not enough room for the female to land beside him, she alighted on his back, as seen in the statue, and symbolic of all Pegu wives ever since, who are notoriously able to keep their husbands under their thumbs
