AFRICA, MALDIVES - Demon face of five-sided stele discovered on Male where monthly sacrifices of a virgin to a sea monster were said to take place. Carved from local limestone, these statues featured feline teeth, outstretched tongues, moustaches, top knots, and earlobes inserted with circular discs.
