AFRICA, ZANZIBAR - The application of Henna is a long-standing tradition in Zanzibar and all along the African trading coast. Henna is typically used as a dye for celebrations, and most often weddings. Henna was introduced into Zanzibari culture through the Arabs along with other trades. Today, tourists can find henna decorators all over the island, however, the tradition and meaning associated with henna is being lost as the culture becomes more and more affected by western cultures.(Photo by Africa24 Media/camerapix/Mohamed Amin/Duncan Willetts)
