AFRICA, ZANZIBAR - The Maruhubi Palace, located 4 km
AFRICA, ZANZIBAR - The Maruhubi Palace, located 4 km outside Zanzibar town, stands in ruins today as a reminder of the rich history of the island. The Maruhubi Palace was constructed in the 1880s by Sultan Barghash as a harem for his wife and 99 concubines. The palace was destroyed in 1889 in a fire that left it in the ruins that are still visible today.(Photo by Africa24 Media/camerapix/Mohamed Amin/Duncan Willetts)
