April 1960 - Reg September - General Secretary Of SACPC. He and eight other members were arrested on charges of treason in 1956. In 1961 he was banned from taking part in the activities of eight Non-White Organisations and of the South African Trade Unions. Before he escaped to Bechuanaland, he was confined to the Wynberg magistrate district. A Coloured born in Kimberley, left South Africa in 1950 to join the Sadlers Wells Ballet Company in Britain, dancing under the name od Ricky Septimus. He got his big chance in Purcell's The Fairy Queen in 1951, but a foot injury ruined his career and he came home. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)
