APRIL 1960 - Unmarried Mothers and their babies - She took her man to court - Letty Moema has to live with her parents in the Pretoria district because her man got tired of putting his hand in his pockets when a third baby arrived. Letty got a court ruling against him. She has got to go to Joburg to fetch the money - and it's not always there. The basic trouble is a political one, say some folk interviewed by a Drum reporter. All tied up with basic conditions and no sex education. And in the meantime more and more kids have to start out life without even the minimum of a chance. (Photograph by Peter Magubane @ BAHA)
