April 1978 - The World's Oldest Monarch Gets Africa's Newest (And Best) TV Service. One eye on the photographer, one eye to the viewfinder of the TV camera, King Sobhuza gets a bird's eye view of the opening. At last Southern Africa has got a decent television service. And the credit goes, not to the moguls sitting at the top of the SABC's ivory tower in Auckland Park, Joburg, but to the spritely 78-year-old King Sobhuza of Swaziland. When the barefoot King performed the opening ceremony at the tiny studio to the STBC perched at the top of Mbabane hill, he was switching on the finest television service in the continent.
