April 1980 Mugabes Triumph The joyous Prime Minister-Elect: Mugabes party won 57 of the 80 seats contested, giving Mugabe the premiership. PF co-leader Joshua Nkomo took 20 seats and the great White hope, Bishop Abel Muzorewa, saw his chances of power disappear when his UANC gained only three seats.
