August 1955 - He Was Always First! - Don Mtimkulu, 47, headmaster of Ohlange Institute, and formerly first black principal of Adams High School. Cool and austere Donald Guy M'timkulu is th first black man to teach English at Adams College. He got distinctions in English and Philosophy in the Bachelor of Arts degree at 20 and was the first African to hold the Master of Arts degree at the early age of 23 - all at Fort Hare.
