Bush of Ghosts - Life and War in Namibia 1986-1990 - Sunset return to base of Koevoet in Casspir and Wolf vehicles. 1988. The dirt road past the school that was close to the home of Christian Democratic Action for Social Justice (CDA) president Peter Kalangula. The road also took Koevoet straight into the bush, and brought them back days later the same way. Beyond where the dirt road meets the tarred road is a sharp comer, and that is where I hung out, waiting at sunset for Koevoet to return. Hoping to catch on film or even get a glimpse of bodies on the outside spare wheel, an issue then (1987-88) hody debated and strongly denied by all the armed forces. Usually the high-pitched whining sound of the turbo-charged Wolf engine - produced by Windhoek Masjien Fabriek (WMF) for Koevoet - with the Casspirs heralded their arrival, and soon they would be visible. It was the period of the rainy season in 1988, and the first whispers of SWAPO's Typhoon brigade
