Bush of Ghosts - Life and War in Namibia 1986-1990 - A convoy of Ratel 20s and 90s from 61 Mechanised Battalion crosses the SADF-built pontoon bridge over the Kavango River, upon the withdrawal from southern Angola. 30 August 1988. The Ratel 20 and Ratel 90 were used for the first time during Operation Modular (to halt the advance of FAPLA forces on UNITA strongholds in Mavinga and Jamba) in southern Angola in 1987, and during the crossing of the Lomba River against Angolan tanks during the battle of Cuito Cuanavale. This withdrawal came in the wake of Operation Packer
