Bush of Ghosts - Life and War in Namibia 1986-1990
Bush of Ghosts - Life and War in Namibia 1986-1990 - A herder wearing a throwaway T-shirt of Etango, a cultural front for 101 Battalion. 28 June 1988. Etango means the sun in oshiWambo. It was the name of a cultural group attached to 101 Battalion and run by a Dr Pasques. The herder's T-shirt told a story of serious poverty, as if he were born to it. He spoke slowly to my translator, about the MIG strike on Calueque and the South African dead. He warned of landmines on the dirt road to the waterworks, and said many soldiers of South Africa were pushing into Cunene (Angola)
