Bush of Ghosts - Life and War in Namibia 1986-1990 - The deserted Angolan border post at Ruacana. 1 June 1988. The cicadas sang frantically and in harmony. There was no movement, no troops, no people. The border post sang a song of history, of war, attack, refugees, and armoured cars pumping bullets into its forlorn MPLA walls. In former times there was no border control, no customs and excise, or rubber stamps banging in the passages. All around were the telltale signs of landmines and destruction
