December 16 1962 - Jackson Gijima was walking away
December 16 1962 - Jackson Gijima was walking away from the building when I heard a loud bang. I turned around and I was amazed. Instead of the building, there was a huge, gaping hole. This was one of the stories told to Post by the South African's luckiest and bravest men - the survivors of the West Driefontein mine disaster which killed 34 men on Wednesday morning.
