December 1967 - How Does He Stay On Top - A growing army: on becoming president, Obote enlarged the army radically. When the central government troops attacked and captured the former Kabaka of Buganda's palace, some political observers claimed that Obote's government would not last more than six months. They argued that nobody could rule Uganda without the Kabaka and the support and co-operation of the Baganda.
