December 1976 - Transkei Independence - Chief Lucas Mongope, the only homeland leader to grace the celebrations has a chat with Chief K. D Matanzima. Chief Mangope's BophutaTswana is next in line for independence. The two men were the key figures at the Umtata summit talks of homeland leaders where they resolved never to accept independence from Pretoria unless their land claims are met.
