February 1959 - A Partnership Begins - Unto a brave
February 1959 - A Partnership Begins - Unto a brave new world: West Africa's bold pioneers stride purposefully towards their goal of a regional federation of free nations. A dramatic meeting. A historic moment. The head of a newly-born state, M. Sekou Toure of Guinea, steps down from a plane on to the tarmac at Accra. There to greet him is the head of another new state - a bare 18 months senior to his own. The two men embrace. Their two countries embrace as well. For, following a few days of conference, the world hears a thrilling announcement: Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Sekou Toure of Guinea have decided to merge their two countries into one.
