January 1955 A new Hammer Strikes! Jason Black Hammer Radebe started boxing in 1947 when he joined Barney Molopo's back-yard gym. During the next five years till he turned pro he had 15 amateur fights winning 10 and beating now-known boxers like Young Seabela who was then aptly called The fighting machine. In all his eight pro fights of which he won six he was not an impressive boxer. Then came his lucky break when he was matched with Enoch Nhlapho. With the first bell of the fight, we saw a Radebe who definitely had championship material in him. He could punch he could think- and he had guts.
