January 1963 - Supervising on the slide means keeping an eye on a dozen eager bundles of energy. Mrs. Ruth Motlana is daytime mother to nearly 400 kids in Orlando Township Johannesburg. She and a staff of 27 assistants teach the kids to wash their faces, wash plates they eat their meals from and fold their blankets they have their afternoon sleep on.
