July 1962 - Quiet Big Wedding -The Tribal Queen at the wedding of Chief Tidimane Pilane marrying Irene Ross of Johannesburg. Hundreds of pounds were spent on preparations for the affair, tipped to be the Wedding of the Year'. Then came the first day of the wedding at the Dutch Reformed Church, Meadowlands, Johannesburg. A plush German sports car was provided for the groom and his bride. Guests marvelled at the bride's costly gown with its 1, 000 beads. (Photograph by Peter Magubane BAHA)
