June 1963 The Return Of A Prophet Deeply moved: Du Bois receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Ghana's Chancellor Connor Cruise o'Brien, My great grandfahter was carried away in chains from the Gulf of Guinea. I have returned that my dust shall mingle with with the dust of my forefathers. There is not much time left for me. But now, my life will flow on in the vigorous, young stream of Ghanaian life which lifts the African to its proper place among men. And I shall not have lived and worked in vain.
