March 1963 Now Its A Cultural Club! Mr Nkomo, in form, addressing a cultural gathering. That was before his arrest at Rusape and resultant drama. Strictly in the interests of culture, Nkomo did address 10, 000 people in Gwelo, (Great Nkomo lead us to freedom, they chanted) but all he could tell them was: The African people must adhere to the customs of their forefathers, and urge them to stick to their African names, and not use European ones.
