Mogopa was a productive farming community that was deemed a black spot by the Apartheid government and was forcibly removed on 14th February 1984. The community, the Bakwena ba Mogopa, owned two farms near Ventersdorp. Barseba was an area in the former Bophuthatswana where the Paramount chief of the Bakwena ba Mogopa lived
