When two gunmen walked up to Owen Lefty Mthebu outside his Joburg shop and pumped thre bullets into his head and chest, they killed one of South Africa's strangset big-time gangsters, and one of the luckiest. Lefty by his one admission, had face fourteen charges, including several for murder, and actual attempts had, until that last September night, come to nothing.
