Samuel Bonnin Hobson

Samuel Bonnin Hobson. Graduate of Rhodes University; a teacher, then an official of the Cape Education Department. His Afrikaans novels won him the Hertzog Prize. On his retirement from the Department's services he became a Provincial Councillor. In 1959 he received an Honorary Degree (LLD) at Rhodes University. He was chairman of the Council of Rhodes University for 14 years until his resignation in 1965 due to ill-health. Hobson House residence at Rhodes University was named after him
