September 1955 - Dr. Van Der Ross - The bearded dynamic
September 1955 - Dr. Van Der Ross - The bearded dynamic Dr. Van der Ross, has over the past two years become a highly controversial figure in Cape Politics. This is the man that led the protests of the Coloured people against the Separate Representation of Votes Act which aimed at removing the Coloured man from the common voters roll. the man whom thousands look up to for leadership in the Cape. Richard Ernest van der Ross was born in Plumstead, Cape Town, and grew up in what could be termed a teacher's environment with a strong D. R. C. spiritual influence. The Van der Rosses are a family of teachers. (Photograph by Drum Photographer BAHA)
