In 1963 musicians and fans awaited actor Zakes Mokae's perfomance at the Witwatersrand University Great Wall, Johannesburg, ready to acclaim one of the greatest entertainers of our time. Lanky Zakes was just back from a smashing tour of the United Kingdom with Athol Furgards Blood Not. He was to reading poetry to a backround of Jazz, the first reading of its kind in South Africa. Lichternburg born Mokae's conception of reading poetry to a backround of jazz was something magnificent. Financially struggling Dad and Mum sent aspiring Zakes to St Peter's High School, Rosettenville, Johannesburg where he really picked the stage know-how.
