Republic of Congo, 26 May 2009: Boyele Preparatory school was started in 2008 and has 2 teachers who were recruited locally. Both have gone to school but not finished high school. One classroom constructed out of local mud brick and a wooden frame. Initial enrolment was 99 students " 63 boys and 36 girls although numbers have fluctuated between 80 to 103 students depending on the time of year and if children need to help parents in forest with seasonal work. Most children dont know their ages and each class has a huge range of children with some looking much older than others.Land for school was negotiated by the church from the local chief.Community wanted the school and played an active part in construction.UNICEF and the Church is in process of building a bore hole with a pump as currently no sanitation facilities exist. The school is very basic with many children crowded on to wooden desks and benches
