South Africa, Naboomspruit (Two hours drive north of Johannesburg) 2003: Learners try to concentrate on what the teacher is saying in an overcrowded class at the Makhutshitsa High School in the Naboomspruit township. The previously white's only school in town, Hans Strijdom Highschool, refuses to allow lessons to be taught in English thereby eliminating the posssibility of many black children attending. Their learner to teacher ratio is about 35 to 1 while at Makhutshitsa High it is as high as 60 to 1 in some classes
