The Soweto Uprising, 1976

16 June 1976 is the day the youth of SOWETO marched to the streets in protest against the use of Afrikaans language as the medium of instruction in schools. What started as a demonstration in SOWETO spread to the whole of South Africa and, from that day, the political landscape of the country was never the same. Many young people left the country to join banned and exiled liberations movements such as the African National Congress (ANC) and the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC)
