Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V - Bardie Wawn and Bluey Truscott

WW2 Australian Fighter Air Ace Squadron Leader Keith Bluey Truscott (right) shaking hands with Clive "Bardie" Wawn (left) - a media promotional photo when they discovered that Bardie's dad, Dr Royle Wawn, saved the life of Bluey as a young 6 year old boy suffering with severe double pneumonia in Melbourne. In addition, Bardie had saved Bluey a few days earlier by shooting down a German that was hot on his tail. The media loved the context of the story and hence this photo. They were great mates and Bardie and Bluey went on to gain a DFC each and Bluey added a Bar to his. The Squadron here was 452 RAAF Sqn and they went on to fly Kittyhawks in Milne Bay in 76 RAAF Sqn, August 1942 in the Battle for Australia
