Pencil Drawing of Bowbrick (Mr Bowbrick of Bramley) by Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932), influential British horticulturist, garden designer, artist and writer. He is shown in his Sunday-best in Bramley Church beside the font. The Bowbrick family occupied both a tiny house on the High Street at Bramley, just ten feet square, and a special place in Jekyll's heart. She recalls how they lived an exemplary, primitive but clean and simple life. Mr and Mrs Bowbrick had an impeccable kitchen and came to church in meticulously blackened boots, gaiters and a well brushed coat, his head tied in a clean blue handkerchief to cover the eye he had lost fighting for his country. This portrait (in words) radiates warmth and admiration for the gallant veteran
