William Robinson - Irish practical gardener and journalist
Head and shoulders portrait of William Robinson (1838-1935) by Henry George Moon. Robinson was an Irish practical gardener and journalist whose ideas about wild gardening spurred the movement that led to the popularising of the English cottage garden'. Robinson invited Henry Moon to stay and paint the grounds at Gravetye in the Summer of 1891 the resulting works were exhibited at Gooden's gallery, London in November 1892. Moon returned to paint at Gravetye in 1895 and it is very likely this sketch was created during one of those visits
