Herzogin Cecilie wrecked off Starhole Bay, Devon
The Herzogin Cecilie, a German four mast barque (Windjammer), named after German Crown Princess Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1886-1954), on the rocks off Starhole (Starehole) Bay, near Salcombe, Devon, after one of her many races round the world. A white smoke flare (danger signal) can be seen coming from one of the masts. She was gradually broken up by the waves, and the remains are still on the seabed
