Shows group of people assembled in Pier Road on the 9th August 1966 to witness the begining of the demolition of the Town Centre prior to its redevelopment. The shop frontage on the right is that of Mitchell's Department Store which would be the centrepiece of the ceremony. The store had closed in September 1961
