Sandcliffs, Fraser Road, Erith
Close up of the working face of the quarry. On the top of the loam there is a steam excavator removing the ballast, which is loaded into horse drawn wagons and taken away, thus allowing the loam to be exposed. The quarrry face was about 60 feet deep. The houses at the top of the quarry are those in Bexley Road. The closeness of these to the workings caused the company to realign towards Riverdale Road
