Rosenlaui is the highest settlement in the alpine valley of Reichenbachtal with its water, the Reichenbach, forming the Reichenbach Falls before joining the Aare at Meiringen. The Falls have a total drop of 250 metres and are known worldwide as the setting where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's hero, Sherlock Holmes, fights to the death with his archnemesis..
