An Old Elizabethan House, Great Smithfield

This etching shows a front face of St. Bartholomew's gatehouse, a rare survivor of Tudor London, the structure protects the church of St. Bartholomew the Great, which was founded in 1123. During the 18th century, a Georgian facade was built over the Tudor timber, only until bomb damage from a German zeppelin raid in 1917, was the original frontage revealed
