This painting depicts a group of nude sirens on a rock, overlooking a ship which is crashing through the roaring sea, with gulls swooping in the foreground. In Greek mythology, sirens were creatures which lured sailors with enchanting music, with the aim of shipwrecking them, which is visualised here
