: Suffragette Tea set Sylvia Pankhurst

Suffragette Tea set Sylvia Pankhurst

A suffragette china saucer with a purple and green design of a portcullis with chains, overlaid with a purple broad arrow motif. Based on the design by Sylvia Pankhurst for the Holloway Brooch, which dates from the early part of 1909. There are no makers marks, but one authority suggests this was probably also produced by the firm of Williamson. Furthermore, the teaset (of which this is but a small part), may have belonged to Mrs.Rose Lamartine-Yates, a prominent member of the Wimbledon branch of the W.S.P.U
