This painting depicts a following of religious figures wearing black robes for vespers, a service of evening prayer. The cathedral of St. Rombaux, (Saint Rumbold's) stands behind, the construction of which started shortly after 1200. After a city fire in 1342, architect Jean d'Oisy took on the repairs and building of the next phase
