Women Workers WW1 Y.W.C.A Women's Day

Poster commemorating Women's Day, a fund-raising event on behalf of the Women's Wartime Workers Fund. The Young Women's Christian Association (Y.W.C.A) set up centres for munitions workers, W.A.A.C's, nurses, land girls and for girls and women from overseas stranded in the UK because of the conflict. They also set up clubs near training camps and welfare centres for women in France. The figure of the women wearing a Y.W.C.A symbol reaches out to women workers (one holding a shell), servicemen, children and the elderly, against a grim industrial landscape
